Job Title:                       Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocate

Reports To:                   Program Supervisor, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

Job Summary:                     Assists Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program Supervisor by screening, support, information on resources, and education related to domestic violence and sexual assault to the healthcare team and patients.

Essential Job Duties:

Assists in coordination of CCHCI Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program

  • Provides domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy related services to all sites as necessary in-person and via telephone.
  • Screens patients for domestic violence.
  • Counsels and advises victims of community resources and safety planning.
  • Arranges for emergency sheltering of victims and children.
  • Assists victims with obtaining protection orders, crime victim compensation and legal assistance.
  • Assists with transportation for victims to shelter, medical facility, court and various services.
  • Provides immediate and ongoing support to victims.
  • Completes all necessary documentation and provides follow-up, as necessary.
  • Provides case management services including developing service plans with individuals and families.
  • Trains and educates CCHCI staff on domestic violence and sexual assault awareness and advocacy.
  • Collects and reports data, within NextGen and other sources, related to the Domestic Violence and Sexaul Assault Program as needed to meet CCHCI leadership and grant requirements.

 

Builds and Maintains Relationships with Community Groups and Resources.

  • Works with Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence (AZCADV) to provide training and education to police departments and other community groups on domestic violence issues.
  • Works with various community resources to promote domestic violence and sexual assault awareness and advocacy.
  • Coordinates a community task force concerned with domestic violence and sexual assault prevention and intervention.

 

Required Qualifications – Education, Expérience, Certificates & Licences:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years’ experience in social work or related field required.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the necessary skills required may be considered.
  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
  • Driver's License and Proof of Insurance may be required if requesting mileage reimbursement.

Preferred Qualifications – Education, Experience, Certificates & Licenses:

 

  • Experience in crisis counseling working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault preferred.
  • Experience working with healthcare providers preferred.
  • Completion of 40-hour domestic violence awareness training preferred, can be completed upon hire.
  • Completion of 40-hour sexual assault awareness training preferred, can be completed upon hire.

 

 

Required Language Skills:

  • Ability to comprehend and compose instructions, correspondence and communications in English and Spanish in both oral and written format.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients, internal providers and staff and other agency staff working in cooperation with the organization.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally exert enough force to move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to continuously remain in a stationary position.
  • Ability to constantly move about inside the workplace to assist patients, operate office or medical equipment, etc.
  • Possesses hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to constantly operate computer, telephone, and other office machinery.
  • Possesses close visual acuity necessary to accurately record and view information on a computer monitor, handwritten and typed documents.
  • Ability to discern the nature of sounds at a normal spoken volume.
  • Possesses hand-eye coordination and visual acuity necessary to frequently operate a motor vehicle in normal and adverse weather conditions.

 

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to skillfully gather and analyze data.
  • Ability to perform a variety of assignments and make decisions requiring considerable independent judgment.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of health plans and community health centers preferred.
  • Knowledge of laws and legal proceedings relating to domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Computer literacy required with proficiency in use of all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently and develop realistic action plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally competent service.

 

Work Environment & Conditions:

  • Work environment is typical of a health clinic setting with occasional exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids and hazardous chemicals.
  • Community outreach work is occasionally performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to outside weather conditions to include heat and cold, and humid, windy and dry conditions.
  • Work includes frequent driving in normal and adverse weather conditions over improved and rough road surfaces.
  • Work requires reliable transportation as position requires frequent travel and extended hours to include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Work requires ability to be contacted by cell phone during or outside of regular work hours.
